#TraumaShift - Transforming Society

In a society burdened by abuse, inequality, and environmental crises, the community and public sectors are operating under immense strain. In charity, community and public sectors, find ourselves at a breaking point, desperately seeking solutions to address these deep-rooted issues.

Is it possible to create lasting change in society?

The answer lies in a profound shift in the way we work—one that acknowledges and responds to the pervasive impact of trauma. Welcome to #TraumaShift, a movement dedicated to creating trauma-informed workplaces and transforming our collective approach to social challenges.

Understanding the Impact of Trauma:

It is estimated that one in three adults has experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. Moreover, the global pandemic has introduced an additional layer of collective trauma. The repercussions of trauma extend far beyond personal experiences, affecting employment rates, employee well-being, leadership capabilities, and the ability to innovate. Fear and confidence issues often hinder progress, perpetuating cycles of inequality and injustice.

The Power of a #TraumaShift:

To effectively address external challenges, organizations must begin by fostering internal shifts. #TraumaShift seeks to support hundreds of organizations in adopting trauma-informed approaches to their work. By prioritizing the well-being and experiences of their staff and volunteers, these organizations will create spaces that facilitate healing, support, and collective action. Moreover, they will tap into the unique value of lived experiences, transforming trauma into brilliant solutions for addressing societal injustices.

Why #TraumaShift Matters:

#TraumaShift is not only a response to the risks associated with working on issues like inequality, abuse, and environmental crises; it is also an opportunity for transformative change. Trauma has a profound impact on every workplace, affecting retention, performance, team dynamics, and overall well-being. By cultivating trauma-informed workplaces, organizations witness a remarkable increase in performance, impact, and employee well-being. Furthermore, individuals who have experienced trauma often possess resilience, insight, and adaptability, which, when nurtured within supportive work environments, can fuel innovative solutions to the most challenging societal problems.

How #TraumaShift Works:

From grassroots initiatives to a national platform, #TraumaShift is already making waves. In Bolton, we are collaborating with Public Health to co-produce "trauma-informed communities." In partnership with the mental health charity Mind in Salford, we are developing and implementing their visionary "Radical Care" five-year strategy. Additionally, we are supporting enJOY arts in Trafford to evaluate the impact of their post-pandemic project, "Mothers in Crisis." By elevating these local endeavors to a national level, we aim to rally more employers across the country to commit to creating healthier and more supportive workspaces. #TraumaShift also seeks to generate public awareness, empowering employees and customers to demand meaningful change, much like the #MeToo movement.

Embracing Change, Together:

#TraumaShift is not confined to mere words; it is a call to action. We take the stage to share our stories, collaborate with communities to co-produce valuable resources, and partner with organizations that champion transformative change. Together, we can create a society that acknowledges and responds to the impact of trauma, fostering resilience, healing, and innovative solutions to our most pressing challenges.

Join us in the #TraumaShift movement and together, let's create a world that honors the humanity and experiences of all.
