Filter
We all need a filter system, a way of choosing, prioritising and making decisions. But that system is different for everyone.
In Healing-Centred Design we focus on moving from pain to power. This means mending the things that don’t work and tending to our needs along the way. Filters help us with mending and tending, creating boundaries and choices. Designing your own filter system gives you clarity.

Explore: Filter
Filter is an organising principle. It helps us decide, choose, focus. When we want clarity, filter helps us sort and prioritise.
This is tender work, people can be very attached to their beliefs about what is right or wrong, and thinking about decisions ahead of time helps.
Design your own: Decision Making Tool
This worksheet will help you explore how you make decisions and create your own decision making model.
Make it happen: Template Filter Systems
These are some of the ‘Filters’ we regularly use in our work, you might like to adopt or adapt these or create your own versions.
New Work Filter – we use this to scope out work and establish if we are able to commit and what is needed to do so.
Finance Filter – We use this to keep track of invoices and payments, the drop down menus help us know what actions need to be taken.
Motivation Filter – When we want to understand our motivations for taking actions, we use this which helps us prioritise and decision on what to proceed with.
