Designing the Live Well
Fund

Working across sectors to coproduce a fund that supports
people in Greater Manchester to Live Well.

How might we create an equitable, community led health and wellbeing fund?

Live Well is part of the The Greater Manchester Model for Health and Wellbeing. Its a movement that recognises the most progress will be made to improve health if communities collaborate with the system to tackle the social causes of ill health alongside clinical interventions. They call this community-led, system enabled working.

A Brilliant Thing CIC have been working alongside GM NHS and GMCA for 12 months to explore and facilitate the development of a new fund which will be available in 2025, to all regions of Greater Manchester.

This has involved,

  • Engaging in conversations with communities to develop the purpose and scope of the fund.
  • Developing and facilitating a Community Evaluation approach, to gather learning from across GM to evaluation the distribution process and shape the next round of funding.
  • Leading workshops with system leads, funders and commissioners to design the distribution process and impact the fund could make.
  • Producing a Funding Pack for Local Infrastructure Organisations to encourage participatory grant-making and to test new ways of distributing funds.
  • Delivering interventions at quarterly Live Well conferences, to communicate and enrich design process.
